X10 Numbering - What's Your Scheme
Is that A10 or A11 ?
If you are like me, you have probably started out slowly with X-10 automation. You might have added one or two devices to "play" with. It is a pretty safe bet that one of your earlier devices had A1 as its address. When you got the next device, you changed to the next highest number.
Now, with 6 or more devices, it can get confusing which address controls what. The first time I set up a MS13A motion sensor, I didn't pay attention to the "dusk and dawn" feature. Besides detecting motion, the MS13A can also trigger lights to come on at dusk and off at dawn. The address used is 1 higher than the base address of the sensor. For example, if the sensor is set for A3, then the dawn/dusk feature will use address A4. All of a sudden, you may have a light turning on and off for no apparent reason.
So am thinking about my addressing scheme. I plan on adding a number of SR227 modules and I have to think about how to add them into the mix. Should I group addresses by room? Maybe by function ? I guess I will have to think on this for awhile. What do you think? Do you have a plan that you follow ?
