Starting with ActiveHome Professional
The ActiveHome Pro system consists of the ActiveHome software, currently version 3.228. The hardware that ActiveHome interfaces with is the CM15A. The CM15A connects to your PC using one of the PC's USB ports. You can get the basic system, software + CM15A or get 7 more pieces of X10 hardware to jumpstart your X10 setup:
Installation is easy. Download the latest version of the software from X10.com. As with most USB devices, install the software FIRST. Next, put in a set of 4 AAA batteries into the CM15A. The batteries protect the CM15A's "memory" in case of a power loss.
Plug in one end of the USB cable into the CM15A. Then plug the unit into a standard house outlet (near your computer) . Then plug the other end of the USB cable into your computer. Windows should then go through the typical USB device installation; new hardware installed, recognizing the device and installing the driver.
Start up the software. You should see the following screen:

The software should check for updates automatically. If not, you can always use the HELP menu and click on the Check for Updates.
So your new system is ready to go! Depending on what X10 hardware you own, you can now start adding controllers, switches, etc. into the software. The next article will start the setup process.
