Welcome to X10Review

Welcome to X10Review.com.  If you are interested in X10 technology and home automation, you have come to the right place!  In 1979, the first X10 products were introduced.  X10 products were also marketed by many companies including IBM, GE, RCA, Radio Shack and many others.

At X10Review, we will discuss all aspects of X10 - hardware, software and setup.  Over the past year or so, I have gradually added to my collection of hardware and software - and I am still adding !!

X10 Numbering - What's Your Scheme

Is that A10 or A11 ?

If you are like me, you have probably started out slowly with X-10 automation.  You might have added one or two devices to "play" with.  It is a pretty safe bet that one of your earlier devices had A1 as its address.  When you got  the next device, you changed to the next highest number.

Now, with 6 or more devices, it can get confusing which address controls what.  The first time I set up a MS13A motion sensor, I didn't pay attention to the "dusk and dawn" feature.  Besides detecting motion, the MS13A can also trigger lights to come on at dusk and off at dawn.  The address used is 1 higher than the base  address of the sensor.  For example, if the sensor is set for A3, then the dawn/dusk feature will use address A4.  All of a sudden, you may have a light turning on and off for no apparent reason.

So am thinking about my addressing scheme.  I plan on adding a number of SR227 modules and I have to think about how to add them into the mix.  Should I group addresses by room?   Maybe by function ?  I guess I will have to think on this for awhile.  What do you think?  Do you have a plan that you follow ?

Style Switch - SS13A

Slim & Sleek

The "Style Switch"  (SS13A to the marketing challenged) controls up to 3 lights including the bright and dim function.  The unit itself is the size of a standard light switch cover.  On the back you will find two strips of double sided tape to mount the switch to your wall or whatever.

The SS13A has 4 rocker style switches.  The first three switches turn on/off the light.  Press the left side of the rocker and the light comes on, press right the light goes off.  The fourth rocker will allow you to dim / brighten the light -- if it is a dimmable type module.

The unit is powered by a CR2032 lithium battery so it should last for a LONG time.  A sheet of perforated , preprinted key covers is also included with words like "GARDEN", "BEDROOM", "DRIVEWAY", etc. so you can customize each switch.
